High school sports roundup (Jan. 12)
Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Jan. 12.
Boys basketball
Mt. Hebron 54, Guilford Park 42: The Vikings (6-5) moved back over .500, building a 36-13 halftime lead. Noel Igwe scored a team-high 17 points, while Trevor Smith added 10 points. For Guilford Park (4-9), Chris Wood finished with a team-high 15 points.
Centennial 50, Wilde Lake 47: The Eagles (2-7, 2-4 Summit Division) closed out a tight win as Hunter Morgan led the way with a season-high 18 points. Ryan Doody added 13 points for Centennial. For Wilde Lake (0-9, 0-5 Summit), Benny Eagan scored 18 points.
Atholton 85, Long Reach 52: The Raiders (7-4, 2-0 Sierra Division) extended their winning streak to four. Five Atholton players scored in double figures including DeMarcus Lamot (12 points) and Jordan Dailey (11). For Long Reach (6-6, 2-2 Sierra), Josh Hurd finished with a game-high 28 points.
Laurel 54, River Hill 51: The Hawks (5-5) dropped a tightly contested nonconference battle. Mason Rooths scored 18 points, while Ethan Makode dropped 14.
Dulaney 66, Owings Mill 22: The Lions picked up the win led by 15 points apiece from Chase Huber and Jayden Corley-Pugh. Huber also handed out five assists. Aiden Maricut added 11 points.
Girls basketball
Wilde Lake 47, Centennial 29: The Wildecats (8-3, 5-0 Summit Division) kept pace at the top of the division standings. Quinn Corkeron led the charge with 15 points, while Nadja Stjepanovic added 12. For Centennial (2-7, 1-5 Summit), Tatiana Machiz scored a game-high 16 points.
Long Reach 63, Atholton 51: The Lightning (3-8, 1-3 Sierra Division) earned their first county win of the season. Both Sydney Nance and Jaiden Bryant scored 21 points in the win, while Haley Ruddy grabbed 11 rebounds.
Edgewood 69, Woodlawn 9: The Rams outscored the Warriors 32-0 after the first quarter and were led by Jael Erickson (18 points) and Sam Donovan (16).
